The end of another CESL term

Alas and alack, we have come to the end of another exciting CESL term. Twasn't meant to last much more. But, fear not, for another term is right around the corner. We have a week off. What to do? What to do? My son has minor surgery and my father is visiting. Hope you are well and can rest your weary heads for a while. Hoping you are well and in a safe place.  Colin

The Center for English as a Second Language

I teach at CESL, which is on the SIUC campus. The website is http://www.siu.edu/~cesl/

Heritage Language Maintenance and loss

I'm very interested in heritage language maintenance and loss. I have written on the 1998 Catalan Language Law, which protected and promoted this minority language spoken in southeastern Spain and southwestern France. Now I am currently writing a PhD dissertation on heritage maintenance and loss in my bilingual boy/girl twins. Their mother tongue and the language of the home is Spanish, but they are surrounded by English. I am very interested in personal, institutional, and governmental attempts at protecting minority languages.
